買い付けをかねて、ロンドンの西にあるファーナムという町へ行ってきました。

I went to Farnham for an antique market to buy.

ロンドンとウィンチェスターのちょうど真ん中に位置するファーナム。
ロンドン以外の買い付けのときはいつも相方も来てお出かけもかねるんですが、
ファーナムって今まで聞いたことなかったし、町も見所があるかよくわからなかったので、
今回は一人で行くことに。
ところが思ったよりもとっても素敵な町!
タウンセンターには古い建物が並んでいてとてもかわいいし、
カフェやレストラン、お店も充実。

Farnham is just between London and Winchester.
When I go out of London for buying, my partner always come with me and enjoy sightseeing after my vintage hunt.
However, we have never heard about the town and didn't know if there is any sightseeing spot or not, so I went there alone this time.
But I found out that Farnham was very cute!
It has a character with old buildings, and lots of shops and cafes.

Even Cafe Rouge is cute in an antique building...!

 街も一通り歩いて、夜はゲストが来るし早めに帰ろうかと思ったけれど、
せっかく一人なんだし、ここは精を出してもういっちょ買い付け。
駅からちょっと歩いたところにあるファーナムのアンティークセンターへ行ってみることにしました。
レビューでいいマークがついていたのでちょっと気になっていたのです。

After I walked around the town, I was going to go home as we had a guest coming that night.
However, as I was alone, I thought I should buy more vintages.
I went to an antique centre which was a bit away from Farnham station.
It has a good review on Internet, so I was curious.

タウンセンターからアンティークセンターへ行く道の半分はこの遊歩道を通って。
クロッカスが咲いて、日差しもとっても暖かくて最高でした。

I walked through this path to go to the antique centre.
It was a beautiful sunny day, and crocuses were lovely.

20分以上歩いてやっとやってきたアンティークセンターは、
その甲斐あって見ごたえたっぷり!
17世紀の古い水車小屋を使っているアンティークセンターは、まるで迷路のように階段と小部屋がはりめぐらされて、とっても楽しい!
もうここは見たかな、と思ってもまだまだ続く、怒涛のアンティークたち。

After more than 20 minutes walk, I arrived at Bourne Mill Antique Centre.
It was so huge and so many antiques!!
The antique centre was in the 17th century building and it was like a maze.
It took a long time to finish my vintage hunt there....  it was very fun!

ティールームもありました。
今度はここでお茶しようかな。

There was a lovely tea room.  I would love to try next time.

ここまで来た甲斐あって、かわいこちゃんたちにたくさんめぐり合えました。
アリスのポットも発見!
残念ながらダメージがあったので買わなかったけれど、記念にぱちり。

I brought lots of cuties back home.
I found a Alice teapot!
Unfortunately, it was damaged, so I didn't buy.....

そうそう、本命のアンティークマーケットも、よかったです!
えづらがわるかったので写真は撮らなかったけれど、
「ギャーかわいい!!」と大騒ぎするほどのマーケットではないものの、「おお!?」と思わず二度見してしまう掘り出し物がちらほら。
結果、大収穫となりました。
このバッグが今回の超掘り出し物。
The Mad Vintage用に買ったけれど、まだ売り出すか未定…！
そのほかにもたくさんのかわいこちゃんを見つけることができました。
それらは明日の(3月12日）Old Spitalfieldsでお目見えするので、お時間がある方はぜひ!

Oh, about the market in Farnham, it was good as well.
It was not crazily cute market, but found a lot of bargains.
I totally love this 50s basket.
I bought it for The Mad Vintage, but not sure it's going to be for sale.....!
I bought lots of cuties for The Mad Vintage too.
They are coming to Old Spitalfields tomorrow (12th March)!!
It's a great opportunity to find a lovely present for your mother!

買い付けをかねて、ロンドンの西にあるファーナムという町へ行ってきました。

I went to Farnham for an antique market to buy.

ロンドンとウィンチェスターのちょうど真ん中に位置するファーナム。
ロンドン以外の買い付けのときはいつも相方も来てお出かけもかねるんですが、
ファーナムって今まで聞いたことなかったし、町も見所があるかよくわからなかったので、
今回は一人で行くことに。
ところが思ったよりもとっても素敵な町!
タウンセンターには古い建物が並んでいてとてもかわいいし、
カフェやレストラン、お店も充実。

Cafes in Birmingham (カフェ / バーミンガム）

バーミンガムでももちろんカフェ巡り。
ロンドンを離れるとどうしてもイングリッシュなティールームへ行きたいんだけれども、
バーミンガムではあんまり有名ティールーム、というのはないみたいで、
ロンドンと同じくコーヒーがおいしいカフェが人気みたい。

We visited some cafes in Birmingham!
Although I prefer traditional English tea room when we are out of London,
I couldn't find any authentic tea room in Birmingham on Internet.
Apparently, American style cafes are more popular than English tea room.

ランチに選んだのはここ、Home is Where...

I chose this cafe for lunch, Home is Where.....

ヴィンテージスタイルの家具にソファ席がすごくリラックスできそう。
ここの目玉はむしろ朝ごはんやブランチみたいで、
私がいった時はお昼過ぎだったにもかかわらず、何人もの女の子たちがベリーの乗ったパンケーキを食べてました。
人気メニューみたい。
ものすごーくそのパンケーキに惹かれつつも、「ランチはきちんと食べる!」がうちの(相方の）モットーなので、
デザートにパンケーキを意識しながら軽めのランチ。

I love the interior with vintage style furniture with sofas.
I guess they are popular for breakfast and brunch.
There were many girls eating pancakes with berries even though we arrived there around 1pm.
I think that's the most popular menu in that cafe!
We would love to try their pancakes, however, we don't eat sweets for lunch.
So we had a light savory lunch.

私はブレックファストメニューからスモークサーモンとスクランブルエッグ。
相方さんはファラフェルのラップサンド。
これがすごくおいしかった~。
パンケーキには惹かれたものの、電車の時間と観光時間を考えると、
どうしてもお茶時間にカフェに行かねば時間がつぶれない、ということで、パンケーキは次回にお預け。

I had scramble egg with smoke salmon from the breakfast menu.
My partner had a falafel wrap.
It was very good!!
We really wanted to try the pancake, but as we thought about the time of our train and our sightseeing plan, we had to go to another cafe to kill our time....  So we gave up their pancakes.

We finished sightseeing very early, and we came to this cafe.

バーミンガムでももちろんカフェ巡り。
ロンドンを離れるとどうしてもイングリッシュなティールームへ行きたいんだけれども、
バーミンガムではあんまり有名ティールーム、というのはないみたいで、
ロンドンと同じくコーヒーがおいしいカフェが人気みたい。

We visited some cafes in Birmingham!
Although I prefer traditional English tea room when we are out of London,

Colourful early 20th century jewellery

ヴィンテージが仕事になってしまってからは、あんまり見つけたヴィンテージのことをいちいち書かなくなってきましたけれど、今日は久々に。
The Mad Vintageは、ブランド、年代関係なく、私がただかわいいと思ったものだけを選んでいるので、
私もあんまり知識がないのですが、ここ数年買付をしてきて、私もだいたい見れば年代がわかるようになって来ました。
最近一つ覚えたのは、古いアクセサリーでもカラフルなものがある、ということ。
私はカラフルなものが増えてくるのは50-60年代のポップさが出てきたころからだと思ってたんですね。
それ以前の古いアクセサリーはちょっとシャビーなくすんだ感じだと思ってました。

Since buying vintage stuff became my business, I had not written about my vintage finds in my blog.
Recently, I found out something new about vintage, so I write about it today.
I buy vintage jems which I like, it doesn't matter how old or which brand they are.
I never studied about vintage jewelleries, however, as I have been buying a lot of vintages, I came to recognize how old they are when I see them.
Recently, I found out that even the early 20th century jewellery is pop and colourful, and that really surprised me.
I thought pop and colourful fashion came out after the war, like in the 50-60s, and before that, the colours in fashion was shabby.

こんな感じで。
それが古いもののよさだから私は大好きなんですけれど。
ところが、最近私が見つけた20-40年代のものの中にはとってもポップなカラーが!

Like these jewellery.
I love that style as that's the best of old jewellery.
However, I found very colourful 20-40s jewelleries!

ポップでカラフルなデザイン！
思わず50年代以降のものかな~と思ってしまいましたが、40年代以前のもの。
当時のファッションってどうしても落ち着いた色合いのものしか考えられなくて、
あの時代にこんなカラフルでポップな色合いをつけていたのかと、とても新鮮な驚きでした。

It's so pop and colourful!
I thought they are from after the 50s, but all of them are from before the 40s.
I couldn't imagine that colourful fashion in the 20-40s, it really amazed me.

チェコグラスを使ったこちらのキャンディのようなネックレス。
アールデコ(20-40年代）のもの。

They are like candies. Czech glass, art deco.

とっても不思議な色合いのグラスビーズのネックレス。
こちらもチェコグラスのバイカラーという2色使いのビーズです。こちらもアールデコのもの。

Love this amazing glass beads....

こちらもたぶん、おそらくその年代じゃないかと思われる、レインボーのきれいなグラスを使ったイヤリング。

I guess these earrings are also from the early 20th century.
I love the rainbow colour!!

そして私の一番の驚き、お気に入りがこちら。
このキュートなドット柄のグラスビーズ!
ポップな色使いにドット柄、これがなんと1920年代のもの。
あんな古い時代にこんなポップなデザインがあったなんて、ととても驚きました。

And this is my favourite and the most amazing jewellery I recently bought.
Dotty beads!! And how pop the colour combination is!
This is from the 1920s.
I was totally surprised that this cute necklace was made in such an old time.



さてさて、こちらに出てきたアクセサリーはこの春のThe Mad Vintageの新コレクションでして、

ヴィンテージが仕事になってしまってからは、あんまり見つけたヴィンテージのことをいちいち書かなくなってきましたけれど、今日は久々に。
The Mad Vintageは、ブランド、年代関係なく、私がただかわいいと思ったものだけを選んでいるので、
私もあんまり知識がないのですが、ここ数年買付をしてきて、私もだいたい見れば年代がわかるようになって来ました。
最近一つ覚えたのは、古いアクセサリーでもカラフルなものがある、ということ。
私はカラフルなものが増えてくるのは50-60年代のポップさが出てきたころからだと思ってたんですね。
それ以前の古いアクセサリーはちょっとシャビーなくすんだ感じだと思ってました。

Birmingham ~ バーミンガム

バーミンガムへ行ってきました。
バーミンガムで知ってることといえば、バーミンガムロイヤルバレエがあることくらいなので、
ロイヤルバレエがあるくらいなんだからさぞかし歴史のある街なんだろうと思っていたら、
それほど歴史的な建造物やモニュメントがあるわけでもなく、ただひたすら、都市、でした。
それでも町の中心分には古い建物が残っていて、そこはちょっとロンドンより赴きあるかしら、と思ったり。

We went to Birmingham last weekend.
Only thing I know about Birmingham is that there is Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Since they have a royal ballet company, I thought Birmingham is a historical old city.
However, I didn't find any famous historical buildings or monuments, it was A big city.
But I saw many old buildings in town centre. I liked it.

バーミンガム博物館があるヴィクトリアスクエア。
バーミンガムって…ウェールズじゃないよね…。
なぜかウェールズ国旗がなびく博物館。

Birmingham Museum in Victoria Square.
Is Birmingham in Wales....?  I believe not, but why Flag of Wales was there??

大好きな教会巡り、一番気になっていた左の写真の古い聖マーティン教会はイベント中で入れませんでした、残念。
右の写真の聖フィリップ大聖堂へ。

I love seeing old church, however, unfortunately Saint Martin Church (Left photo) was closed for an event.
We went to Saint Philip Cathedral (Right).

教会めぐりは大好きだけど、ただ見てるだけなので歴史や建築のことはわかりませんが、
イギリスらしいシンプルな教会だな~と。

I just like seeing old churches, I don't know anything about the history and architecture.
But I thought this cathedral was very English.

町の見所のひとつである、この写真の奥にある宝石屋街にも行ってみました。
14世紀から続く歴史ある地区と聞いて、旧市街のような古い町を想像していたんだけれど、
何もなさそうだった…。（博物館はありますが、興味なかったのでパス）
もうちょっと歩けばきれいなエリアとかあったのかしら。

We went to Jewellery Quarter, which is one of the famous sightseeing spots in Birmingham.
It's been there since the 14th century.
However, we couldn't see any Old City style of area, so we didn't really walk around....
I wondered that there would be something if we walked more...



ところで、バーミンガムはただ観光にいったんではありません。
本当の目的は買いつけ!
駅の東のエリアにいって見ました。

By the way, we went there not only for sightseeing.
My main purpose was buying vintage jems.
We went to the East side of Birmingham New Street Station.

今回ヴィンテージマーケットがあったカスタードファクトリー（名前もおいしそう）は、いろんなアートなんかがあるおもしろいエリア。

We went to a vintage market at The Custard Factory.  (yummy name..)
It's a nice area with lots of street arts and vintage shops.

カスタードファクトリーを出たところにあるこのストリートにはステキな古着屋さんが!

This is just next to The Custard Factory, there are some nice vintage shops.

特にこの2軒。
フラミンゴのほうは50-80年代のポップなテイスト、
お隣さんは20-40年代のクラシカルなテイストで、どちらもステキ!

Specially those 2 shops.
Flamingo has mainly the 50-80s pop clothes.
The next shop has the 20-40s classical taste clothes.
Loved both of them.

自分用にはこちらのキッチュなカーディガンをお買い上げ。
肝心のヴィンテージフェアでもいろいろ仕入れてきました!
次回のロンドンのマーケットにいろいろもって行きたいな!
（次回は3月中旬のオールドスピタルフィールズを予定…でも、前日にならないと確定しないので、TwitterやIGをチェックしてくださいね!）

Of course, I bought lots of vintage jems for The Mad Vintage.

バーミンガムへ行ってきました。
バーミンガムで知ってることといえば、バーミンガムロイヤルバレエがあることくらいなので、
ロイヤルバレエがあるくらいなんだからさぞかし歴史のある街なんだろうと思っていたら、
それほど歴史的な建造物やモニュメントがあるわけでもなく、ただひたすら、都市、でした。
それでも町の中心分には古い建物が残っていて、そこはちょっとロンドンより赴きあるかしら、と思ったり。

We went to Birmingham last weekend.
Only thing I know about Birmingham is that there is Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Since they have a royal ballet company, I thought Birmingham is a historical old city.
However, I didn't find any famous historical buildings or monuments, it was A big city.
But I saw many old buildings in town centre. I liked it.

バーミンガム博物館があるヴィクトリアスクエア。
バーミンガムって…ウェールズじゃないよね…。
なぜかウェールズ国旗がなびく博物館。

Birmingham Museum in Victoria Square.
Is Birmingham in Wales....?  I believe not, but why Flag of Wales was there??

大好きな教会巡り、一番気になっていた左の写真の古い聖マーティン教会はイベント中で入れませんでした、残念。
右の写真の聖フィリップ大聖堂へ。

I love seeing old church, however, unfortunately Saint Martin Church (Left photo) was closed for an event.
We went to Saint Philip Cathedral (Right).

教会めぐりは大好きだけど、ただ見てるだけなので歴史や建築のことはわかりませんが、
イギリスらしいシンプルな教会だな~と。

I just like seeing old churches, I don't know anything about the history and architecture.
But I thought this cathedral was very English.

町の見所のひとつである、この写真の奥にある宝石屋街にも行ってみました。
14世紀から続く歴史ある地区と聞いて、旧市街のような古い町を想像していたんだけれど、
何もなさそうだった…。（博物館はありますが、興味なかったのでパス）
もうちょっと歩けばきれいなエリアとかあったのかしら。

We went to Jewellery Quarter, which is one of the famous sightseeing spots in Birmingham.
It's been there since the 14th century.
However, we couldn't see any Old City style of area, so we didn't really walk around....
I wondered that there would be something if we walked more...



ところで、バーミンガムはただ観光にいったんではありません。
本当の目的は買いつけ!
駅の東のエリアにいって見ました。

By the way, we went there not only for sightseeing.
My main purpose was buying vintage jems.
We went to the East side of Birmingham New Street Station.

今回ヴィンテージマーケットがあったカスタードファクトリー（名前もおいしそう）は、いろんなアートなんかがあるおもしろいエリア。

We went to a vintage market at The Custard Factory.  (yummy name..)
It's a nice area with lots of street arts and vintage shops.

カスタードファクトリーを出たところにあるこのストリートにはステキな古着屋さんが!

This is just next to The Custard Factory, there are some nice vintage shops.

特にこの2軒。
フラミンゴのほうは50-80年代のポップなテイスト、
お隣さんは20-40年代のクラシカルなテイストで、どちらもステキ!

Specially those 2 shops.
Flamingo has mainly the 50-80s pop clothes.
The next shop has the 20-40s classical taste clothes.
Loved both of them.

自分用にはこちらのキッチュなカーディガンをお買い上げ。
肝心のヴィンテージフェアでもいろいろ仕入れてきました!
次回のロンドンのマーケットにいろいろもって行きたいな!
（次回は3月中旬のオールドスピタルフィールズを予定…でも、前日にならないと確定しないので、TwitterやIGをチェックしてくださいね!）

I bought this cardigan for myself :)
Of course, I bought lots of vintage jems for The Mad Vintage.
I would love to bring them to market.
(Our next market plan is in the mid of March at Old Spitalfields.

Japanese* Yoshimura @ Kyoto (よしむら / そば・嵐山）

One of the most famous restaurant in Arashiyama, Yoshimura.
You can have genuine handmade soba noodle there.

嵐山で有名な食べどころの一つ、よしむら。
本格的な手打ちそばが食べられます。

The restaurant is just in front of Katsura-gawa river. (Near the famous Togetsu-kyo bridge).
It used to be the house of a famous painter in Meiji era (around 100 years ago) .
It's a traditional Japanese house, there are a shop of Japanese items and another restaurant of Tofu dish.

桂川の目の前に立つこの建物は、明治時代の画家が画堂を構えた由緒ある建物。
手打ちそばのよしむらのほか、和雑貨のお店と、豆腐料理の料亭が入っています。

After all, this view!!
It couldn't be better to eat delicious soba noodle in front of this magnificent view of the river and the mountain.

なんといってもこの景色!
桂川と岩田山の雄大な景色を目の前に食べるおいしいおそばは最高。

I had a mountain vegetable soba, and my partner had his favourite Tempra soba.
Of course we shared and had the best of both.
If you go to Arashiyama, I really recommend this place.

私は久しぶりの日本だったので日本らしい山菜そば。
相方は大好きな天ぷらそば。
もちろん半分こでシェア。
嵐山に来たら是非この景色と一緒に堪能して欲しい味。
