アルルから拠点を移して、アヴィニョンへ!
After staying in Arles, we moved to Avignon.
ついた当日はちょうどアヴィニョンの演劇祭が始まったところでした。
町は催し物のポスターで埋め尽くされています!
When we arrived in the town, Avignon Theatre Festival had just started.
The whole town was covered with posters!!
アヴィニョンは中世の時代に一度法王庁があったことがあります。
この法王庁宮殿は街のランドマークの一つ。
バチカンの法王庁みたいなところを想像していたのですが、
フランス革命時に装飾物はすべて持っていかれてしまって、中は見事にからっぽ。
Avignon was the papal residence once, 700 years back.
This Palais des Popes is one of the landmarks of the town.
I imagined that it would be gorgeous, like the papal residence in Vatican.
But all the furniture and decorations were taken at the French Revolution, it's very much empty.

お隣のロシェ・デ・ドン公園はお散歩にぴったり…だけど、
この日はものすごく暑くて、とてもじゃないけどお散歩気分ではなかった!
もっぱら木陰で休んでいました。
Rocher des Doms Park, the next to Palais des Popes, is the perfect for a walk.
However, it was veeeeeery hot day, we couldn't keep walking.
We were often resting under the tree.
高台にあるこの公園からは、ローヌ川にかかるあの有名な橋が見えます。
The park is on the hill, you can see the great view of the River Rhone and the famous bridge.
あの有名な橋とは…「アヴィニョンの橋で、踊るよ踊るよ」のアヴィニョン橋。(サン・ベネゼ橋）
The famous bridge is....Avignon Bridge (Pont St-Benezet) from the song of "Sur le pont, d'avignon, l'on y danse, l'on y danse".
実は川の氾濫で、もう向こう岸までかかっていないんです。
12世紀から残るこの橋には礼拝堂もあります。
Actually, the bridge was broken long time ago because of floods.
There was a chapel in the bridge which was built in the 12th century.
ホテルのオーナーに、雄飛の時間に向こう岸から法王庁を眺めると、
ちょうど法王庁が夕日に照らされてきれいだよ、と聞いたので行ってみようとしたら、
最後のボートの時間を逃してしまいました。
(アヴィニョン橋の東側からフリーのボートが出ています。）
Our hotel's owner told us that we can see the beautiful view in the sunset time from the other side of river.
We missed the free boat.....
(There is a free boat to cross the Rhone River from the East side of Avignon Bridge.)
代わりに歩いて橋を渡ったので、向こう岸についたころにはすっかり日が沈んでいました…。
対岸はキャンプ場になっていて、お散歩にも最適。
We cross the bridge by foot so that the sun had gone down when we got the opposite side of the river.
お祭り中は夜中まで皆大騒ぎ。
次回はお祭り中のアヴィニョンの様子をご紹介。
The town was nightless during the festival.
I will write about the festival next time.
