日曜日、何かイベントはないかとサイトをのぞいていると、
Vintage Open Houseの文字。
毎度毎度、ロンドンのオープンハウスは私の誕生日と重なるので逃してきたのですが、
ヴィンテージのオープンハウスなんて! これは行かないと!!
というわけで、さっそく行ってきました。
Last Sunday, we were checking a website to look for a event.
And we found "Vintage Open House".
Every year, I missed London Open House because it always falls on my birthday weekend.
I always wanted to go to London Open House. And there is, VINTAGE open house! I must go!
So I went.
自宅から程近いワッピングにあるそのWilton's Music Hallに着いてみると、思わず、
「わぁ~!」と声を上げてしまいたくなるほど、古っ!!
こりゃヴィンテージだわ．．．いや、アンティークの域ですね。
When I got the place, Wilton's Music Hall, in Wapping, where is near our flat,
"Woooooooooow!" unconsciously. It's so OLD!!
Yes, it is vintage....no, it's antique, probably.
建物の歴史は古く、始まりは19世紀初頭。
音楽ホールとしては、1850年代が始まりです。
ホームズの作家、コナン・ドイルや切り裂きジャックがいた頃より前の話です!
その後、２２年で音楽ホールとしての役割を終えていますが、
役割の形は変われども、今日までそのホールの姿を残していました。
The history of the building started in the beginning of 19th century.
As a music hall, it started in 1850's.
That is before Arthur Conan Doyle who is the writer of the Sherlock Holmes series, and Jack the Ripper!
After that, the music hall was closed at the age of 22 years.
But the hall itself have survived although a role was changing.
こちらが音楽ホール。
柱やバルコニーの彫刻がステキです。色あせた壁も．．．
全てがアンティーク。
This is the music hall.
The relieves in the balcony and pillers are beautiful. The fading walls too....
Everything is antique.
日曜の3時から6時までのたった3時間のオープンハウスでしたが、
人はそんなに多くなく、みんなが思い思いに建物の歴史を感じているのが印象的でした。
It was just 3 hours Open House from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday, but there were not many people.
It was impressive that people were chilled out and felt the history of the building.
２階へ行ってみましょう。 Let's go upstairs.
親切なスタッフの方が少し案内してくれました。
音楽ホールとしての役目を終えたあと、ここはメソジスト教の教会になったり、
いろいろな形で地域のコミュニティに貢献してきました。
しかし、いくつもの戦争・災害からも生き残ってきたこの建物も、放置され荒れ放題になっていきました。
それが1960年代に入ってからようやく再生の動きが始まり、
今ではWilton's Music Hall Trustの手にゆだねられ、
1999年に音楽ホールとして復活を果たしました。
A kind staff guided us a bit.
After the music hall was closed, it became a mission hall of Methodist and so on,
and had contributed to the local communities.
This building survived from wars and disasters, however, it became dilapidated.
In 1960's, finally the movement for the restoration started.
Now, Wilton's Music Hall Trust got this hall and the music hall retuerned in 1999.
復活したといっても、建物は最後に再建された１９世紀後半のもの。
１００年以上手の入れられていないこの建物は、老朽化がすすんでいます。
スタッフの方がところどころ、建物の危ない箇所を見せてくれました。
この素晴らしい歴史ある建物を何とか残そうと、Wilton's Music Hall Trustは寄付を募っています。
Although the hall returned, the building itself has been there since the end of 19th century.
This building is more than 100 years old and ramshackle.
A staff showed us dangerous points.
Wilton's Music Hall Trust collects donations to save this historical beautiful building.
ちょっとインドっぽい絵がかかれた音楽ホールのバック。
現在、この音楽ホールでは、オペラや演劇、コンサートのほか、マジックショーも!
こんなところでマジックショーなんて、レトロでステキ。
そして、なぜかピンポン大会もやっています。

Nowadays, this music hall stages operas, plays, concerts and magic shows!
How retro a magic show here.
And, I don't know why, there's a ping pong tournament too.
家具も何もかもヴィンテージ。 All funiture is vintage.
下のバーに来て見ました。
ここがこの建物の元になったところ。
もともとパブだったここに、音楽ホールを併設したのです。
バーのカウンターにも彫刻が施されていてステキ。
This is a bar in the ground floor.
This is the base of this building.
Originally there was a pub here and they established the music hall attached to the bar.
The relief of the counter is beautiful.
寄付を募るケーキが販売されていましたよ!!
They were selling cakes for donations!! :)
見た目もかわい～!!
もちろん購入して、寄付に貢献しました!!
They look gorgeous... Of course we bought some to donate!
少しの間だったけど、ご近所(家から徒歩１０分!）にステキな場所を見つけられて、
アンティークな雰囲気に浸れて、ステキな時間でした!
見たかったオペラがあったのに、もう終わっててショック!
ハロウィンには「ハロウィン・マジック・ショー」があるのでとっても行きたかったのですが、
その頃私は日本!!
くやし～。ぜひとも行きたかったのに。
