tearoom* Candella (カンデラ/ロンドン・ティールーム）

先週は相方さんがホリデーだったので、どこにも行かないぶんカフェめぐりをしよう!　ということになり、いろいろまわってました。
その中でもうれしい発見だったのが、このカンデラティールーム。
たぶん、私が訪れたロンドンのティールームでは、一押し!!
結構何度も前を通り過ぎていたんですが、今まで行くチャンスがなく。
ネットでカフェ巡り先をリサーチしていたら、いろんなところでお勧めされていたので、いってみました。

My partner was on holiday last week.
We didn't plan anything to go away, so we decided to find new nice cafes.
One of the best find was a tea room Candella.
I think this is the best tea room in London so far!!
I had passed in front of the tea room many times, but never been there.
We found out that the tea room was recommended by many people in internet, so we tried it.

店内は広くはないけれど、とても心地よい空間。
天井には絵が描いてあって、インテリアもとてもガーリー。
天井からつるされたクリスタルのシャンデリアに、外からの光が当たって、店内に虹色の光がきらきらきらめいてきれいでした。

The tea room is not big, but very cosy and comfortable.
Their ceiling was covered with cute drawing and the interior was really girly.
There were some chandeliers which got sunshine and made a lot of rainbow lights, which was beautiful.

かわいいヴィンテージカップとアンティークっぽいお茶の缶がずらり。
お茶はメニューを見ずに頼んでしまったのですが、いっぱい種類がありそうでした。オーガニックだそう。

There were lots of vintage cups and vintage tins of tea, which was exciting for me!!
We ordered tea without seeing the menu, but apparently they have huge range of tea menu and also they are organic.

大きめのティーポット（一人分です）に、キャンドルで保温もしてくれるので、長くお茶が楽しめます!
二人でアールグレイを注文したのですが、別のティーポットに別種類のアールグレイを入れてサーブしてくれました。
一つはちょっとスモーキー、もう一つは香りがとても豊かで、どちらもおいしかった!
お茶っ葉も買えるようです。

They sereve a tea with a big tea pot and candle to keep it warm!
We both ordered Earl Grey, and they serve another different Earl Grey in another pot!
One is a bit smokey, and another one was really had great citrus taste.
Both of them were lovely!
They sell tea leaves as well.

そんなにおなかもすいてなかったので、二人でランチ兼用でアフタヌーンティーをシェアしました。
このボリュームで一人ぶんです!
（つまり私たちは、この写真に載ってるアフタヌーンティー（サンドイッチ８個（４~５種類の中から２種選べます。）とスコーン２個と紅茶）+紅茶一人分をオーダー）
何が驚きって、アフタヌーンティーについてるシンプルサンドイッチでこんなに感動したの初めて。
パンが乾いてたりすることが多いのですが、ここのパン、本当に本当にふわっふわで。
私たちはサーモン+クリームチーズと卵サンドを頼んだのですが、
卵サンドも、イギリスの味気ない卵サンドではなくて、ちゃんとマヨネーズの味が利いてる卵サンド!!
アフタヌーンティーでサンドイッチをおかわりしたいと思ったのなんて初めてです。

そしてスコーン!
ふかふかでおいしかった…!
もちろん熱々!　そしてクロテッドクリームとジャム付!
スコーンを温めて出してくれるところってなかなかないのですが、ここはすべて文句なし。
お値段も￡１５ぐらい（はっきり覚えてないけど、これくらいだった）で素晴らしい!
ロンドンでお勧めのティールームを聞かれたら、私は下手にホテルなんかのスノッブなところよりは、断然ここをお勧めします。
ここはコーヒーもおいしいらしいので、今度はコーヒーとケーキを試したいな!

We were not hungry so much, so we shared an afternoon tea set.
( An afternoon tea set has 2 scones and 8 sandwiches (you can choose 2 tastes from 4-5 tastes.)
What surprising me was I have never had such a good sandwiches!!
Usually, I don't really like sandwiches in afternoon tea set, mostly they are dried.
But their sandwich bread was so soft.  Absolutely soft.
We had smoke salmon+cream cheese, and egg sandwiches
That egg sandwiches were the best ever I had in UK.
I had never thought that I wanted more sandwiches!!

And their scones!
It was warm!! with clotted cream and jam!
Most of tea rooms don't serve warm scones.
This tea room ticked all points I want for a tea room.
The price was very good too. (I think it was around ￡15.)  Wonderful.
If you asked me the best tea room in London, I definitely would say this tea room.
Forget about the snob hotel tea room, I loved Candella!
Apparently their coffee is also good, I would love to try it with their cake next time!

An American in Paris 巴里のアメリカ人

だいぶ遅くなってしまいましたが、このパリ旅行の真の目的、巴里のアメリカ人の感想です!

ご存知ジーン・ケリー主演の名作映画が原作。
全編ガーシュウィンの名曲がちりばめられたミュージカルで、特にラストの１５分以上もの長いバレエシーン、表題ともなっている「巴里のアメリカ人」が有名です。
それが今回、プロのプリンシパルバレエダンサーを主役に起用して、満を持しての舞台化です!（一度２００８年にもされていますが。）

I am so sorry it is quite late, but here is my review of the musical An American in Paris in Paris, which was my prior purpose of my Paris trip.
The base is the famous Gene Kelly's film in the 50's, used Gershwin's music, specially the last number An American in Paris, which is the title of the film also fantastic long ballet scene.
Finally, it became the stage version with professional ballet dancers!!



レスリー・キャロンもバレエダンサーだったことから、当然舞台化にもバレエシーンが期待されていました。
でもプロ並のバレエができて歌って演技ができる俳優さんなんてそうそういるもんではありません。
でもやっぱり映画が偉大なだけに、やるならバレエをちゃんとやって欲しい!
それに大きく応えてくれる豪華なキャストが今回の最大の成功ポイント。
主役の二人はなんと有名バレエ団の現役ダンサー。ジェリー役のロバート・フェアチャイルドはなんとニューヨークシティバレエのプリンシパル（トップクラス）。
逆にそうなると、「歌えるのかな…」という心配がありましたが…。
この二人が本当に本当に素晴らしかった!!
特にジェリー役のフェアチャイルド。 歌もとてもよかった、というかすごかった!!
リズ役のロイヤルバレエ・ソリスト、リアン・コープの踊りも本当に一つ一つの動きが優雅。
私は映画を何年も前に１回見たきりで、今回復習するのも忘れていったので、いまいち映画版との比較ができないのですが、
映画を覚えている友人が言うには、リズ役の雰囲気がかなり変わっているとのこと。
レスリーがかなりチャキチャキ感があるのに対して、リアン・コープはまさにプリマバレリーナ、という感じです。

Leslie Caron who played the heroine Lise was also a ballet dancer, so of course we expect a genuine ballet dancing in the stage version.
However, it is very rare to find a person who can dance ballet like a principle dancer, and act and sing.
But it is a masterpiece musical, we want to see the beautiful ballet in the stage version too!
The gorgeous cast made this musical a massive success.
The lead couples are from the famous major ballet companies.
Robert Fairchild who play Jerry is a principal dancer from New York City Ballet.
They are genuine dancers!!! ....on the other hand, I was a bit worried, those dancers can sing....?
Yes they can!!! They were fantastic musical actors, who can dance and sing.
Especially, Fairchild was an amazing singer.
Leanne Cope who is from Royal Ballet and played Lise were so elegant.
I watched the film a long long time ago, so I forgot the story.
But according to my friend who watched the stage together and remembered the film, Lise's character was a bit changed from the film.
In the stage version, Lise is elegant, graceful, just like a prima ballerina.

そしてもう一つの成功ポイントが、演出振付にバレエの振付師、クリストファー・ウィールドンが起用されたこと。
ウィールドンは今ノリにのっている振付家で、最近ではロイヤル・バレエに新しく全幕バレエ「不思議の国のアリス」を振付けて話題になりました。
最初はコンテンポラリーで抽象的な振付が主な彼でしたが、アリスではかなりエンタテイメントな振付を披露、大成功を収めました。
それだけに彼のミュージカル作品、期待せずに入られません。
やはりバレエの振付家だけあって、（リズがバレエダンサー役というのもあるけど）バレエ的な振付が中心。
だけど踊るのもバレエダンサーなので、とっても質が高いダンスシーンに。
主役だけでなく、アンサンブルにもバレエダンサーや経験者が起用され、最後のバレエシーンは本当に芸術的な作品に仕上がっています。
とにかくダンスミュージカル好きを唸らせるくらいの出来栄えです!

Another reason of the success of this musical was the director and choreographer, Christopher Wheeldon.
He is a hot choreographer in the ballet world, his work "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" for Royal Ballet was sensational.
In the beginning of his career, his works were more contemporary, however, his "Alice" was very entertaining and made a great success.
So, I couldn't help expecting his another great job!
His choreography was really ballet-ish dancing, (Of course, he is a ballet choreographer), and dancers are professional ballet dancers so that dance scenes were really high quality.
Not only those lead couples, ensembles are also dancers who experienced ballet.
The last ballet scene was a masterpiece.
It satisfies dance musical lovers for sure!

もちろんバレエだけでなく、ガーシュウィンの曲に合わせたタップナンバーもあり、ミュージカルならではのコミカルなシーンもあり、本当に楽しい作品です。
現在はパリでの公演を終え、ブロードウェイでの開幕準備中。
ミュージカルにはいまいちな反応のパリジャンでさえ、最後は劇場中スタンディングオベーションになったこの舞台。
ミュージカルの本場でも人気作品になること間違いなしです。

Of course, not only ballet scene, there were a tap numbers and comical musical numbers.... it really is an enjoyable musical.
This production finished performance in Paris, and is in preparation for Broadway.
This musical received a standing ovation from the whole theatre of Parisien who usually don't fancy musicals.
I asuure that it will be successful in Broadway, the best place of musicals.

パリのシャトレ座で行われたこの舞台。巴里のアメリカ人なだけに!
英語キャストでフランス語字幕でした。
パリで、巴里のアメリカ人なんて!　映画、舞台の世界に浸れるわ～、と浮かれて行ったにもかかわらず、
映画を復習するのを忘れて、すっかりどんな話だったか覚えておらずに見てしまいました。
だから単純に素晴らしい、と思ったのですが、一緒に見に行った友人が言うには、映画からかなり話が変わっているとのこと。

冒頭は戦後のパリを音楽とダンスだけで表現。
これがちょっと長すぎて、いまいちわかりにくかった。
ちょっと説明を入れてくれたらもうちょっとわかりやすかったかな、とも思うのだけど、この辺はやっぱりバレエ振付家ぽいのかも。
バレエっぽいといえば、歌のナンバーのダンスシーンで、ダンサーが黙々と踊っているのも印象的だった。笑
ミュージカルでダンスだけのシーンでは、よく「ひゅー！」とか「いぇー！」とか入るので笑、もちろん舞台上はダンサーたちが激しく踊っているし、音楽もなっているのだけど、なんだか「し～ん…」と感じてしまったのでした。

で、兵役を終えてパリに残ることにしたジェリー。
彼が出会ったアメリカ人のピアニスト、アダムがピアノ伴奏するオペラ座バレエ団のオーディションに同伴し、そこで素敵な踊りを披露していたのがリズ。
アダムとジェリーはそこで彼女に一目ぼれ。
でも彼女は、アダムとジェリーの友人、アンリと婚約していたのでした。

リズ役がオペラ座バレエ団に抜擢されるようなバレリーナということで、見るからにバレエをやってるお嬢さん、という感じ。
それが友人によると、映画のレスリーとかなり違うキャラでちょっとがっかりしたとのこと。
確かにおとなしく気品のあるレディ、という感じだけど、コケティッシュなところがあってかわいかったです。
リアン・コープの演じるリズにぴったりなので、彼女に合わせた役柄なのかも。

それにしてもとにかくジェリー役のフェアチャイルドが、大発見。
私はこのレビューを書くまで二人が退団したと思っていたのだけど、二人とも現役、ということでびっくり!
（バレエ団団員が外に出るのは他のバレエ団客演以外では結構珍しい）
彼は次期ミュージカル界のスターと思ってただけに…そうか、まだ在団中なのか…。
フェアチャイルドにはぜひとも他の歌って踊るミュージカルにいろいろ出てほしいと思っていたのに!!
ここまで踊れて、そして歌も歌えるというのは本当にまれなこと。
ぜひとも今後チャンスがあればミュージカルにでて欲しいな!

期待の最後の「巴里のアメリカ人」のシーンは、映画の華やかなパリの絵のような風景とうってかわって、抽象的なデザインに。
赤、青、黄色のモンドリアン・カラーにちょっとマティスのような雰囲気の美術。
まさしく２０世紀前半のフランス、といった感じ。
パ・ド・ドゥもバレエの技巧を交えつつ、それにはとらわれないステップですばらしかったです。

もちろんブロードウェイらしいナンバーも。
アンリの「I'll build a stairway to paradise」、とっても楽しく一番盛り上がったナンバーでした。
好きな曲だったからうれしい。

本当に、次の日もう一度見てもいいくらいいい舞台でした。
パリまで行った価値大有り！
教えてくれた友達、快く送り出してくれた相方に大感謝です。

パリで、巴里のアメリカ人なんて!　映画、舞台の世界に浸れるわ～、と浮かれて行ったにもかかわらず、
映画を復習するのを忘れて、すっかりどんな話だったか覚えておらずに見てしまいました。
だから単純に素晴らしい、と思ったのですが、一緒に見に行った友人が言うには、映画からかなり話が変わっているとのこと。

冒頭は戦後のパリを音楽とダンスだけで表現。
これがちょっと長すぎて、いまいちわかりにくかった。
ちょっと説明を入れてくれたらもうちょっとわかりやすかったかな、とも思うのだけど、この辺はやっぱりバレエ振付家ぽいのかも。
バレエっぽいといえば、歌のナンバーのダンスシーンで、ダンサーが黙々と踊っているのも印象的だった。笑
ミュージカルでダンスだけのシーンでは、よく「ひゅー！」とか「いぇー！」とか入るので笑、もちろん舞台上はダンサーたちが激しく踊っているし、音楽もなっているのだけど、なんだか「し～ん…」と感じてしまったのでした。

で、兵役を終えてパリに残ることにしたジェリー。
彼が出会ったアメリカ人のピアニスト、アダムがピアノ伴奏するオペラ座バレエ団のオーディションに同伴し、そこで素敵な踊りを披露していたのがリズ。
アダムとジェリーはそこで彼女に一目ぼれ。
でも彼女は、アダムとジェリーの友人、アンリと婚約していたのでした。

リズ役がオペラ座バレエ団に抜擢されるようなバレリーナということで、見るからにバレエをやってるお嬢さん、という感じ。
それが友人によると、映画のレスリーとかなり違うキャラでちょっとがっかりしたとのこと。
確かにおとなしく気品のあるレディ、という感じだけど、コケティッシュなところがあってかわいかったです。
リアン・コープの演じるリズにぴったりなので、彼女に合わせた役柄なのかも。

それにしてもとにかくジェリー役のフェアチャイルドが、大発見。
私はこのレビューを書くまで二人が退団したと思っていたのだけど、二人とも現役、ということでびっくり!
（バレエ団団員が外に出るのは他のバレエ団客演以外では結構珍しい）
彼は次期ミュージカル界のスターと思ってただけに…そうか、まだ在団中なのか…。
フェアチャイルドにはぜひとも他の歌って踊るミュージカルにいろいろ出てほしいと思っていたのに!!
ここまで踊れて、そして歌も歌えるというのは本当にまれなこと。
ぜひとも今後チャンスがあればミュージカルにでて欲しいな!

期待の最後の「巴里のアメリカ人」のシーンは、映画の華やかなパリの絵のような風景とうってかわって、抽象的なデザインに。
赤、青、黄色のモンドリアン・カラーにちょっとマティスのような雰囲気の美術。
まさしく２０世紀前半のフランス、といった感じ。
パ・ド・ドゥもバレエの技巧を交えつつ、それにはとらわれないステップですばらしかったです。

もちろんブロードウェイらしいナンバーも。
アンリの「I'll build a stairway to paradise」、とっても楽しく一番盛り上がったナンバーでした。
好きな曲だったからうれしい。

本当に、次の日もう一度見てもいいくらいいい舞台でした。
パリまで行った価値大有り！
教えてくれた友達、快く送り出してくれた相方に大感謝です。

他の地域と違ってちょっと割安で、広い家が買えるとあって、今アップカミングなエリアです。
だから若い人たちが多いし、これから成長していくエリアだと思う。
これから家を買う友人にもこのエリアを勧めました。
（治安のことや子供が通う学校のことなどを考えると、ちょっとまだリサーチしなければならないと思うけど…）
私たちの住む西ロンドンは、大好きなエリアだけど正直言って、今後子供が生まれてもうチョイ大きな家に住みたいと思っても、無理かもしれない…。
というわけで私たちも今から目をつけているエリアなのです。

We met our friend this weekend.
It had been ages, as we had a cold and flu alternately so that we had been staying home for a while.
They got a new flat in North East London.
It was huge, and new and clean!!
I actually don't really like the area to live for the safety reason.
However, recently 3 couples of my friend moved to the area.
All of them got nice big flat.  I think it is upcoming area to buy a property in London.
Young people are buying there, I think the area is going to grow.
We love our West London area too, but it is becoming too expensive.
If we want a bigger house, we can't really afford it....
So we are also interested in that area.

その中でも一角、ステキなエリアと言われているのがワルサムストウ・ヴィレッジ。
こちらに移り住んだ友人たちがこぞって、「いい」というので、行って見ました。

I was interested, so we went there last week.

本当に、ロンドンじゃないみたいな静かなエリア、住宅もとってもかわいい。

It doesn't look like Greater London.
Quiet area, and beautiful houses...

ピザがおいしいと噂のパブでランチしようと思ったんだけれど、夜だけと言われてしまいました。
このときも、お客はにゃんこだけ…

We wanted to have a lunch at a pub which is famous for pizza apparently.
But they serve food only for dinner....  Shame...
The only customer there was a kitty....

かわいい雑貨屋や、カフェがあると聞いてきたのですが、あんまり見つけられなかった…。
もうちょっと歩かないとだめだったかな。
ヴィレッジからちょっと歩いたところにはウィリアム・モリスのギャラリーもあって、
そこに行きたかったんだけれど、思った以上に離れてたので今回は断念。
今度はカフェもチェックして、ぜひ行って来たいと思います。

I heard that there were some cute shops and cafes.
I saw only few of them but probably there are more.
I wanted to go to William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow.
But it was a bit far from the village so I will keep it for next time.

Arashiyama @ Kyoto ~嵐山･京都

Arashiyama is one of the most famous sightseeing spots in Kyoto, Japan.
I asked my partner to think about where you want to go in Kyoto, and his first idea was the bamboo woods in Arashiyama.
It is the most representing scenery in Kyoto.
Arashiyama is famous spot for cherry blossoms and autumn leaves.
However, for me, the colour of Arashiyama is green.
Bamboo woods and green mountains and a river, rice fields....
It is the busy sightseeing spot, but you can see peaceful countryside scenery.

今日は嵐山のご紹介。
相方に、京都で行きたいとこ、考えておいてね!といったとき、真っ先にあがったのが、竹林。
やっぱり、あのグリーンの世界は京都を代表する景観。
桜や紅葉の名所ではあるけど、私はどちらかというと、保津川と竹林のグリーンのイメージ。
観光地ではあるけれど、うららかな田園風景がほっとさせる。

The symbol of Arashiyama, Togetsu-kyo bridge.
To(渡）- crossing, Getsu (月）- moon,
An emperor said " the moon is crossing the bridge".  That episode named the bridge.
Most of parts of the bridge is made of wood, it suits the area.

嵐山のシンボル渡月橋。
月が橋を渡るように見えたから渡月橋なんだとか。
木組みの欄干が好き。

The river of the north side of Togetsu-kyo bridge is called Hozu gawa river.
In Hozu gawa river, a sightseeing bout tour is quite famous.
It starts from Kameoka, the town in North Kyoto, and ends in Arashiyama.
You can see the beautiful scenery in the river between green mountains and these scenery changes in seasons.
Cherry blossoms in spring, rhododendron and greens in summer, coloured leaves in autumn, snow in winter.
This photos was actually taken in the cherry blossoms season, but the bright new green was so beautiful.
I had never done the tour, I would love to.

京都北部の亀岡からこの嵐山まで流れる保津川。
山間に流れる川の美しい景観を船で下りながら見る保津川くだりが有名。
春は桜、夏はつつじ、秋は紅葉、冬は雪景色と四季によっていろんな顔を見せてくれる。
これは桜の時期の写真だけれど、新緑がまぶしくてとてもきれいなグリーンの世界。
いつか私も保津川くだりもしてみたい。

おなじみの竹林。
ただの竹なのに、こんなにも感動するのはなぜなんでしょう。

It's just bamboos, but you are surrounded by green pillars and sunbeams through the bright green roof.
It is amazing.

緑の柱に閉ざされて、緑色の木漏れ日がさした世界にうっとり。

In Arashiyama, jinrikisha (rickshaw) is popular.
Rickshaws running in bamboo woods look very Japanese.

風情ある嵐山では、人力車で町を巡るのもまたよし。
竹林をゆく人力車も、また風情ある。

You can see the beautiful rural scenery just after a short walk from the town centre.
The thatched house in the left of the photo is built in the 18th century called Rakushi-sha (落柿舎）, the house of Haiku poet.

街中から歩くとすぐに広がる田園風景。
奥に見えるかやぶき屋根は俳人の遺跡、落柿舎。
１８世紀に建てられたのだとか。

You can enjoy the traditional Japanese scenery in Arashiyama.
I recommend to take at least A day there to chill out and enjoy the countryside.

お散歩するだけで昔ながらの日本の風景が堪能できる嵐山。
ぜひ一日かけてゆっくりして欲しい。

When I took my partner to Japan for the first time, we happened to see a festival there.
It was Saigu Gyoretsu parade, hold on every third Sunday of October.
Saigu means female attendants in Ise Jingu shrine (the most important shrine in Japan) selected from emperor's family. (unmarried.)
This parade reproduces the parade which Saigu and companies go to Ise Jingu shrine from Kyoto.
People wear the costume of Heian era (1000 years ago).

相方を初めて日本に連れて行ったとき、偶然にも嵐山ではお祭りをやっていました。(ほんとにお祭り自体知らなかった。）
毎年１０月の第３日曜日に開催される斎宮行列。
斎宮とは天皇が新たに即位されるときに任命される、伊勢神宮に使える巫女になるために選ばれた内親王。
この行列は、その任命された巫女が都から伊勢に向かう行列を再現したもの。
時代祭りのようで平安時代の衣装を着た人たちが町を練り歩きます。

The right is Saigu.
The parade starts from Nonomiya Jinja shrine in the bamboo woods.
Nonomiya Jinja shrine used to the place where Saigu was sequestered for 1 year before she goes to Ise Jingu shrine.
Arashiyama was a resort district of aristocrats in Heian era.
The parade made the atmosphere of the era and we felt like we slipped back in time.

右が斎宮。
竹林の中にある縁結びで知られた野宮神社からスタート。
野宮神社はこの斎宮に選ばれた巫女が、伊勢に行くまでに一年間こもって身を清めた場所なんだそうです。
嵐山は平安時代の貴族の別荘地であったことから有名になった場所。
お祭りがその雰囲気を呼び戻して、まるでタイムスリップしたかのよう。

We went to St John for Valentine's dinner, though we had to go in the quite early evening as we booked a table very late.
I always wanted to go there.

いくつかの店舗がある中で、こちらのオールド･スピタルフィールズのお店はブレッド＆ワインと称してるだけあって、パンだけ買いにくることもできます。
最近ではドーナツが有名。

They have several branches and this branch in Old Spitalfields is called Bread & Wines, so you can just pop in to buy bread too.
Recently, their doughnut became very popular.

早い時間でそこまでおなかもすいてなかったので、スターターはシェア。
ダックリバーとフォワグラ。
フレンチスタイルでパンに塗って、コニション(小さなきゅうりみたいなやつのピクルス）と一緒に頂きます。
シンプルなのにとてもおいしくて…。
もちろん、食前にパンもサーブされますが、それもとてもおいしかった!

We were not hungry so much, so we shared a starter.
Duck liver and foie gras.
It's French style, we spread it on the bread, and eat with cornichons.
It's simple, but delicious...
Of course you get their bread too, it's also good as well!

メインはソール(ひらめ）をいただきました！
ものすごーく肉厚なひらめ、こんなの初めて!
付け合せのポテトもおいしかった!
相方も同じく、本日のスペシャルメニューから白魚。(何の魚か忘れた…）
シンプルにこちらもレモンと、付け合せも同じくポテトとタルタルソース。
こちらのほうが魚の味がしっかりしてておいしかったかな。
料理もインテリアもシンプルなんだけれど、いかにも「シンプル･イズ･ザ･ベスト」を体現したようなお店。
素材のおいしさを生かしていてとてもおいしかった!

I had a sole.
It was really thick, I had never had such a thick sole!
The side veg potato was also really good.
My partner had a fish too from the today's special menu. (Forgot what kind of fish...)
It's as simple as my sole, with lemon and potatoes and tartar sauce.
His fish had more taste than my sole.
Their food and interior is simple, but it really expresses "Simple is the best".
Simple cooking, but taste very good.

かなりおなかいっぱいだったし、デザートメニューはいかにもイギリス的なプディングやケーキばかりだった中で、マドレーヌはシンプルでおいしそうだったたのでセレクト。
サイズを聞いたらミニマドレーヌっぽかったし、食べきれなかったら持って帰ればいいと思って、マドレーヌ１２個(１２個か６個かのどちらか）をオーダー。
出て来たのはドドーンと普通サイズでした…!　
こりゃ絶対に食べきれない、と思いつつも、このマドレーヌ、オーダーしてから焼かれるので、熱々のふわっふわ。
出来立てマドレーヌは香ばしくておいしかった!
でも、もって帰って正解、一晩置いたマドレーヌもそれはそれでおいしかったのでした!
また絶対に来たいお店!

After all we were really full, but their madeleine sounded good.
We asked how big they are and the staff said it's very small, so we order a dozen of them.
However, it was a normal size.....
But those madeleines were baked after we ordered, so they were really fresh!!
Those freshly baked madeleine were really yummy!
Of course we couldn't finish them all, but that was good, because they were even better next morning!
I would love to go back there again!

今年のバレンタインディナー、予約は出遅れてかなり早い時間帯だったものの、行きたかったセントジョンへ。

We went to St John for Valentine's dinner, though we had to go in the quite early evening as we booked a table very late.
I always wanted to go there.

いくつかの店舗がある中で、こちらのオールド･スピタルフィールズのお店はブレッド＆ワインと称してるだけあって、パンだけ買いにくることもできます。
最近ではドーナツが有名。

It's French style, we spread it on the bread, and eat with cornichons.
It's simple, but delicious...
Of course you get their bread too, it's also good as well!

メインはソール(ひらめ）をいただきました！
ものすごーく肉厚なひらめ、こんなの初めて!
付け合せのポテトもおいしかった!
相方も同じく、本日のスペシャルメニューから白魚。(何の魚か忘れた…）
シンプルにこちらもレモンと、付け合せも同じくポテトとタルタルソース。
こちらのほうが魚の味がしっかりしてておいしかったかな。
料理もインテリアもシンプルなんだけれど、いかにも「シンプル･イズ･ザ･ベスト」を体現したようなお店。
素材のおいしさを生かしていてとてもおいしかった!

I had a sole.
It was really thick, I had never had such a thick sole!
The side veg potato was also really good.
My partner had a fish too from the today's special menu. (Forgot what kind of fish...)
It's as simple as my sole, with lemon and potatoes and tartar sauce.
His fish had more taste than my sole.
Their food and interior is simple, but it really expresses "Simple is the best".
Simple cooking, but taste very good.

かなりおなかいっぱいだったし、デザートメニューはいかにもイギリス的なプディングやケーキばかりだった中で、マドレーヌはシンプルでおいしそうだったたのでセレクト。
サイズを聞いたらミニマドレーヌっぽかったし、食べきれなかったら持って帰ればいいと思って、マドレーヌ１２個(１２個か６個かのどちらか）をオーダー。
出て来たのはドドーンと普通サイズでした…!　
こりゃ絶対に食べきれない、と思いつつも、このマドレーヌ、オーダーしてから焼かれるので、熱々のふわっふわ。
出来立てマドレーヌは香ばしくておいしかった!
でも、もって帰って正解、一晩置いたマドレーヌもそれはそれでおいしかったのでした!
また絶対に来たいお店!

After all we were really full, but their madeleine sounded good.
We asked how big they are and the staff said it's very small, so we order a dozen of them.
However, it was a normal size.....
But those madeleines were baked after we ordered, so they were really fresh!!
Those freshly baked madeleine were really yummy!
Of course we couldn't finish them all, but that was good, because they were even better next morning!
I would love to go back there again!

Cafe* Folks and Sparrows @ Paris (カフェ･パリ)

インスタグラムのパリ在住の人たちがこぞって行っていたのがこのカフェ。

Most of my favourite instagramers in Paris went to this cafe.

こじんまりしているけれど、石壁とタイルがすごくいい感じです。

It's cozy cafe, but I love the interior, specially the stone wall and tiles.

カフェだけでなく、厳選された食材も売ってます。

Not only coffee, they have selected groceries.

ラベルがかわいい、パリジェンヌビール。

かなり夕方に行ったんだけれど、町歩きに夢中でお昼がまだだったので、
観劇前にランチ＆ディナーでベーグルサンド。
フレッシュでおいしかった。
カフェラテもおいしかった!
店員さんも気さくで、英語でどこから来たの?　このカフェよく見つけたね～とちょっと世間話。

Although I arrived there in late afternoon, I had a bagle sandwich as I didn't have lunch because I was too busy to walk around Paris.
The sandwich was fresh and delicious.  Their cafe latte too.

シアターの時間があったので、ゆっくりランチしながらお店にあった雑誌をちらり。
この一番上の旅雑誌(本?）よかったなあ。
私もこういうの作りたい。
自分で作ろうかなあー。

I had time until the Ballet starts, so I was reading magazines in the cafe.
I loved the top one, the travel magazine (book?) about Berlin.
I would love to make this kind of magazine.....  maybe I will do it by myself :)

インスタグラムのパリ在住の人たちがこぞって行っていたのがこのカフェ。

Most of my favourite instagramers in Paris went to this cafe.
