お花がいっぱいのパブ、といえば、知っている人もいるかも。

このときはまだ2月半ばだったので、お花がまったく咲いてませんが、
季節になると、この通り。

But, when spring comes, it becomes like this.

私は、この近くにあるバレエスタジオに通っていたのでよく前を通り過ぎたことはあったのですが、
今まで一度も入ったことがなく、いつもお花を眺めては、きれいだなあ、入って見たいな、と思ってたのです。
今回、相方の友人がフランスからやってきたので、イギリスらしいこのパブへランチしに来ました。

I used to go to a ballet studio near this pub, so I often passed by.
I always wanted to go inside!
When my partner's friend visited us from France, we decided to take her to this pub for lunch as it is very English!

中に入ってびっくり、天井がびっしりとアンティークで埋め尽くされて!
アンティーク好きにはたまりません。
アンティーク好きでなくても、やっぱりステキなインテリアは目を惹いたみたい。

Surprise!! So many antiques hanging from the ceiling!

このパブはなんと18世紀からある建物。
ロンドンでもかなり古いパブの一つです。
お客さんにもレギュラーさんが多そう。

This pub is built in the 18th century, one of the older pubs in London.
I see many regular customers too.

たくさんのアンティークに、暖炉にともった火がとてもイギリス的。

Many antiques and the fire...... very British!

ところでこのパブの名前の通り、中はチャーチルさんでいっぱい。

As the name of the pub, you can find lots of Chuchill.

たくさんのチャーチルグッズ…。
由来は、ウィンストン・チャーチルのおじいさん夫婦がここの常連だったからだそう。

So many Churchill items...
The origin of the name was because Winston Churchill's grandparents were their regular customers.

外だけでなく、中も緑やお花でいっぱい!

Not only the outside, the inside was also full of greens and flowers!

さて、肝心のランチ。
私はイギリス的パブでブリティッシュなパブランチを、と思ったのですが、
このパブ、実はタイ料理を出しているんですね!
イギリスパブでタイ料理?と思うかもしれませんが、実はタイ料理はイギリスでもっともポピュラーな外国料理の一つで、
パブでタイ料理を出してるところも結構あります。
このパブはロンドンで初めてタイ料理を出したパブ、らしいです。
私が頼んだのは右のお店の方がいう人気料理、Pad Thai。
甘辛な味付けのヌードルでおいしかった~。
相方さんが頼んだチキンと野菜の炒め物もおいしかったです。

I was thinking to have British pub lunch in a British pub, but this pub was actually Thai food restaurant!
Apparently, it is the first pub in London to serve Thai food.
I ordered Pad Thai (Right) as a staff said it was the most popular menu there.
Sweet and spicy noodle, it was delicious!!
My partner's chicken dish was very good too!

"天国にビールがないなら、天国になんか行かない!”
タイ料理を出そうとも、ここはやっぱりイギリスっぽい。(笑）
パブ料理に飽きたら、こちらでタイ料理はいかがでしょうか。

Even they serve Thai food, that's very English :)

ノッティングヒルとハイストリートケンジントンを結ぶ、ケンジントン・チャーチストリートにあるパブ、ザ・チャーチルアームズ。
お花がいっぱいのパブ、といえば、知っている人もいるかも。

楽しみにしていたバレエを見てきました!
イングリッシュナショナルバレエはロンドン拠点のバレエ団で、
最近はロイヤルバレエから花形ダンサー・ロホが監督に、コジョカルもやってきて、とても勢いづいているバレエ団。
ダンサーもいい人が多いものの、演目はどうしても同じような古典ばかりが目立っていました。
今回は彼らの稀なモダンバレエ、そして大好きなノイマイヤーの作品(しかもすごく見たかったもの）が見れるとあって、楽しみにしていました。
いつもなら終わった頃に、しまったと気づく私ですが、
最近はせっついてチケット買うか聞いてくれる友達がいるので、(笑）
お目当てのアリーナが出る千秋楽のチケットを取ることが出来ました!

I went to see ballet which I really wanted to see!
I always thought that English National Ballet has lots of great dancers but they often do only classical ballet, and dancers couldn't get many solo parts.
Finally I could see them in contemporary work and specially, I really wanted to see Neumeier's Spring and Fall, so I was really excited to see it.



トリプルビルに選ばれた三演目は、モダンといっても、モダンバレエの中の古典というくらい、定番化しているもの。

The triple bill is called Modern Masters, however, those modern ballets are actially becoming classical as modern ballet.


特に最後の演目のインザミドル・・・は、プレミア当時世界をあっといわせた作品で、今も根強いファンがいます。
バレエのステップをモダンで無機質な音楽に合わせて、とにかく超絶技巧を見せていく作品。
その目くるめくステップがものすごくて、目を見張らずに入られません。

Specially "In the Middle..." was sensational in its world premier, many people love the ballet.
It's ballet, but dancers just show amazing skills and steps in an electrical sounds.
You can't take your eyes off from their movements.





真ん中のスプリング・アンド・フォールは対照的に、もっと詩的なバレエ作品。
クラシカル音楽に合わせて、ステップもモダンな動きをあわせつつ、ロマンティックな雰囲気です。

Spring and fall, in contrast, is more poetic ballet with modern movements and classical music.





最初の演目、小さな死は、上の二つとはまた違って、もっとモダンなステップなのに、マクミランバレエのように、体がせりふを言っているような詩的作品。

Petite Mort is so different from both of them.
It is used very modern movements, but still poetic and even the bodies seemed to say something.






どの演目も素晴らしかった!
何よりも、ダンサーたちが生き生き踊っているのが見てとれた。
クラシカル作品ではヴァリエーション一つにとどまるようなソリストたちも、遺憾なく思い切り自分の踊りを踊っていた気がする。
ENBはもっとコンテンポラリーをやるべき!!　(特にプティ作品を!笑）

コンテンポラリーは振付や音楽によっても好みがまったく変わるので、一概に好きとはいえないんだけれど、
キリアンはどちらかというと好きな部類。
特にクラシカル音楽を使った作品。
この作品はモーツァルトのピアノ作品を使っていて、ピアノの音色とモダンなのに美しい体の動きでとりこになってしまった。
ビデオでゆっくり堪能したいな~。

この公演に来た一番の目的はこのノイマイヤーの春と秋で、このブログにも載せたルグリの番組の映像で見て一目ぼれ。
ぜひぜひ全幕みたいと思っていたのでした。
アリーナという特典つきで!!
贅沢を言わせてもらえれば、もっと近くで細かい動きまで堪能したかったところだけど、
見られただけで満足、の作品でした。

すごかった。ほんとにすごい作品でした。
でも私はそこまで好きな作品ではないです。
終わった後、劇場は大興奮に包まれたのですが、私がまったく興奮してなかったので、
となりにいた友人に怒られたくらい。(笑）
ほんとにすごい作品だけれど、それだけ、という感じがして。
無機質な音楽が好みじゃないというのもあるけれど、やっぱり私は物語のあるバレエが好き。
「小さな死」は明確な物語がないのにもかかわらず、男女のやり取りが聞えるようなバレエだったから引き込まれたけれど、
このインザミドルは特に引き込まれるものがなく…。
ただひたすら、「うわ～、すごいな～、よくできるな～。」というむしろダンサー目線だった…。
これがクラシカル音楽を使っていたら、また見方も違ったのかしら、と思ったり。
友人はアリーナを大絶賛していましたが、(もちろん素晴らしい動きでしたが、）個人的には赤星さんがすごく目立っていたと思いました。
本当に、素晴らしいダンサーを抱えているのだから個々が映えるモダンバレエをもっとやって欲しいです。

楽しみにしていたバレエを見てきました!
イングリッシュナショナルバレエはロンドン拠点のバレエ団で、
最近はロイヤルバレエから花形ダンサー・ロホが監督に、コジョカルもやってきて、とても勢いづいているバレエ団。
ダンサーもいい人が多いものの、演目はどうしても同じような古典ばかりが目立っていました。
今回は彼らの稀なモダンバレエ、そして大好きなノイマイヤーの作品(しかもすごく見たかったもの）が見れるとあって、楽しみにしていました。
いつもなら終わった頃に、しまったと気づく私ですが、
最近はせっついてチケット買うか聞いてくれる友達がいるので、(笑）
お目当てのアリーナが出る千秋楽のチケットを取ることが出来ました!

すごかった。ほんとにすごい作品でした。
でも私はそこまで好きな作品ではないです。
終わった後、劇場は大興奮に包まれたのですが、私がまったく興奮してなかったので、
となりにいた友人に怒られたくらい。(笑）
ほんとにすごい作品だけれど、それだけ、という感じがして。

Natural History Museum (ロンドン自然史博物館）

Cafe du Soleilのゆかさんが滞在中、買付のスケジュールに一日だけゆっくりできる時間があり、
ゆかさんがV&Aを見たいということでサウスケンジントンへ。
で、ゆかさんがV&Aにいっているあいだ、私たちはお隣の自然史博物館へ。
というのは、実は私、今年で在英10年になるというのに、
自然史博物館だけはまだ一度たりとも足を踏み入れたことがなかったのです。
まわりに人たちがこぞって「すばらしい！」を連呼する、噂の博物館へ行ってきました。

While my Japanese friend was staying with us, she wanted to see the V&A museum, so we went to South Kensington.
While she was in the V&A, we went to the Natural History Museum as I had NEVER been there since I came to the UK 10 years ago!

やっぱり圧巻なのは建物。
いろんなところに植物や動物のモチーフがあって、細かい細工など、本当にきれい。

The building is absolutely stunning.
There are plants and animals motifs everywhere.

肝心の展示は…う～ん、期待しすぎたかも…。
皆があまりにもすごい、素晴らしい、というから、ものすごいものを想像してただけに、
やはりガラスケースに入れられたり普通に陳列されているものが大半で、
ちょっとそこはがっかり。
世界屈指の自然史博物館なのだから、もうちょっと見せ方を工夫すればもっといいものになりそうなのに。
それを激しく痛感したのが、新しくできたコクーンセクション。
虫や草花のセクションで、建物がものすごくモダンなので期待したんだけれど…。
ここでこそ、なんかもっとあっと驚くような見せ方があったらいいのに!
(それが考え付かないんだけれども!）
企画展はよく素晴らしいと聞きます。

The exhibition was.....ok, for me.
I think I expected too much as everyone said that the museum is so great.
I thought this is one of the best museums so that they have amazing display or something....
Specially the cocoon section.
It was the section of insects and plants.
The building was so modern that I expected something very amazing, but .....
Having said that, I have no idea of amazing display!!
I heard that special exhibitions are very good.

そんな中でやっぱり私が好きだったのは鉱石セクション。
天然石だけではなくおもしろい形のものがあったりで興味深かった。

My favourite was the mineral section.
Not only jewels!, there were lots of interesting shaped stones...

説明書きとかをまったく読まずにただ歩いただけなので、勉強する気で来たらやっぱり素晴らしいのかもしれませんね…。
私はやっぱりアートや目で楽しむものが好きなので、ついついそういうところに目がいってしまう…。
一つ、おもしろい(というか興味深い）展示があって、いきなりこの地球セクションを歩いていたら、
「神戸のスーパーマーケット」が出てきて、何かと思ったらいきなりゆれだした!
阪神・淡路大震災の揺れを再現しているんだそう。
実は、わたしはこの震災時に起きていて(朝5時台なのに）なぜかベッドでメロンパンを食べていたのではっきり覚えてるんです…。
実家は滋賀なので、震源地からだいぶ離れてましたが、古い家に住んでいたので結構ゆれました。
なのでちょっと怖かった。(笑）
相方はじめ、ヨーロッパの人には地震というものがさっぱりわからないので、
こんなに怖いのよー!とちょっとわかってもらえるかも。
震災を体験した人にはちょっと怖いかもだけど…。

I prefer art or something enjoyable with eyes, so I wasn't so amazed with the museum as I didn't read any explanations.
One of the interesting exhibition was "Supermarket in Kobe" in Red zone.
Kobe is the name of part of West Japan.
I wonder what it is, and suddenly the museum started shaking!
It was the reproduction of Hanshin Awaji Earthquake disaster in 1995.
I clearly remember the earthquake as I was awake that time somehow (5:46am!) and eating sweets in my bed.....
Although my house was far away from the epicenter, my house was quite old, so it was really shaking a lot.
The strongest shaking ever I felt in my life.
So, actually I felt a bit scared in this exhibition of Kobe Supermarket. lol
Europeans, of course my partner too, don't know what earthquake is like,
it would be nice to show how the earthquake is to let them understand.
People who experienced a big earthquake might feel scared though.....

勉強といえば、うちの相方はイギリスに来たばかりの頃この近くに住んでいて、
サンドイッチすら指差しで買っていたほどの語学力から、
この博物館に毎日通って説明書きを読んで英語を習得したそうです。（語学学校には通ったことなし!）
すごいな～。当時はまだ入場料無料じゃなかったので、無料になる夕方最後の1時間でこつこつ見回ったらしいです。
そんな相方の思い出深き場所でもありました。

By the way, when my partner just came to UK from France, he lives near here.
He couldn't speak even a word in English to buy a sandwich at a shop,
but he came to this museum everyday and read explanations to study English.
(He had never gone to language school here!)
So, this is a memorial place for him.....

Natural History Museum (ロンドン自然史博物館）

Cafe du Soleilのゆかさんが滞在中、買付のスケジュールに一日だけゆっくりできる時間があり、
ゆかさんがV&Aを見たいということでサウスケンジントンへ。
で、ゆかさんがV&Aにいっているあいだ、私たちはお隣の自然史博物館へ。
というのは、実は私、今年で在英10年になるというのに、
自然史博物館だけはまだ一度たりとも足を踏み入れたことがなかったのです。
まわりに人たちがこぞって「すばらしい！」を連呼する、噂の博物館へ行ってきました。

While my Japanese friend was staying with us, she wanted to see the V&A museum, so we went to South Kensington.
While she was in the V&A, we went to the Natural History Museum as I had NEVER been there since I came to the UK 10 years ago!

やっぱり圧巻なのは建物。
いろんなところに植物や動物のモチーフがあって、細かい細工など、本当にきれい。

The building is absolutely stunning.
There are plants and animals motifs everywhere.

肝心の展示は…う～ん、期待しすぎたかも…。
皆があまりにもすごい、素晴らしい、というから、ものすごいものを想像してただけに、
やはりガラスケースに入れられたり普通に陳列されているものが大半で、
ちょっとそこはがっかり。
世界屈指の自然史博物館なのだから、もうちょっと見せ方を工夫すればもっといいものになりそうなのに。
それを激しく痛感したのが、新しくできたコクーンセクション。
虫や草花のセクションで、建物がものすごくモダンなので期待したんだけれど…。
ここでこそ、なんかもっとあっと驚くような見せ方があったらいいのに!
(それが考え付かないんだけれども!）
企画展はよく素晴らしいと聞きます。

The exhibition was.....ok, for me.
I think I expected too much as everyone said that the museum is so great.
I thought this is one of the best museums so that they have amazing display or something....
Specially the cocoon section.
It was the section of insects and plants.
The building was so modern that I expected something very amazing, but .....
Having said that, I have no idea of amazing display!!
I heard that special exhibitions are very good.

そんな中でやっぱり私が好きだったのは鉱石セクション。
天然石だけではなくおもしろい形のものがあったりで興味深かった。

My favourite was the mineral section.
Not only jewels!, there were lots of interesting shaped stones...

説明書きとかをまったく読まずにただ歩いただけなので、勉強する気で来たらやっぱり素晴らしいのかもしれませんね…。
私はやっぱりアートや目で楽しむものが好きなので、ついついそういうところに目がいってしまう…。
一つ、おもしろい(というか興味深い）展示があって、いきなりこの地球セクションを歩いていたら、
「神戸のスーパーマーケット」が出てきて、何かと思ったらいきなりゆれだした!
阪神・淡路大震災の揺れを再現しているんだそう。
実は、わたしはこの震災時に起きていて(朝5時台なのに）なぜかベッドでメロンパンを食べていたのではっきり覚えてるんです…。
実家は滋賀なので、震源地からだいぶ離れてましたが、古い家に住んでいたので結構ゆれました。
なのでちょっと怖かった。(笑）
相方はじめ、ヨーロッパの人には地震というものがさっぱりわからないので、
こんなに怖いのよー!とちょっとわかってもらえるかも。
震災を体験した人にはちょっと怖いかもだけど…。

I prefer art or something enjoyable with eyes, so I wasn't so amazed with the museum as I didn't read any explanations.
One of the interesting exhibition was "Supermarket in Kobe" in Red zone.
Kobe is the name of part of West Japan.
I wonder what it is, and suddenly the museum started shaking!
It was the reproduction of Hanshin Awaji Earthquake disaster in 1995.
I clearly remember the earthquake as I was awake that time somehow (5:46am!) and eating sweets in my bed.....
Although my house was far away from the epicenter, my house was quite old, so it was really shaking a lot.
The strongest shaking ever I felt in my life.
So, actually I felt a bit scared in this exhibition of Kobe Supermarket. lol
Europeans, of course my partner too, don't know what earthquake is like,
it would be nice to show how the earthquake is to let them understand.
People who experienced a big earthquake might feel scared though.....

勉強といえば、うちの相方はイギリスに来たばかりの頃この近くに住んでいて、
サンドイッチすら指差しで買っていたほどの語学力から、
この博物館に毎日通って説明書きを読んで英語を習得したそうです。（語学学校には通ったことなし!）
すごいな～。当時はまだ入場料無料じゃなかったので、無料になる夕方最後の1時間でこつこつ見回ったらしいです。
そんな相方の思い出深き場所でもありました。

By the way, when my partner just came to UK from France, he lives near here.
He couldn't speak even a word in English to buy a sandwich at a shop,
but he came to this museum everyday and read explanations to study English.
(He had never gone to language school here!)
So, this is a memorial place for him.....

この間訪れた町、ファーナムにもかわいいヴィンテージカフェがありました。

In Farnham, where I visited a few weeks ago, there was a cute vintage cafe.

ステキな古いおうちの1階にあるカフェは、黒い梁とピンクでまとめられたかわいいカフェ。

It was a cute cafe with black and pink in an old house.

いたるところにヴィンテージのかわいいものがあって、テンションが上がります。

The cafe was decorated with vintage furniture and tableware....
So cute!

ヴィンテージカフェなだけに、ケーキと紅茶に惹かれますが、
ランチタイムだったのでスープでまずは腹ごしらえ。
他にもサンドウィッチメニューやサラダの軽食があります。

I wanted to have a cake and tea, but it was still lunchtime, I ordered today's soup.
They have sandwiches and salads too.

この日は時間があったので、その後もスコーンでティータイムを満喫。
ケーキもとってもおいしそうでした!

I had time that day, so I stayed longer for cream tea as a dessert.
Their cakes looked very yummy too!

この間訪れた町、ファーナムにもかわいいヴィンテージカフェがありました。

In Farnham, where I visited a few weeks ago, there was a cute vintage cafe.

ステキな古いおうちの1階にあるカフェは、黒い梁とピンクでまとめられたかわいいカフェ。

It was a cute cafe with black and pink in an old house.

いたるところにヴィンテージのかわいいものがあって、テンションが上がります。

The cafe was decorated with vintage furniture and tableware....
So cute!

ヴィンテージカフェなだけに、ケーキと紅茶に惹かれますが、
ランチタイムだったのでスープでまずは腹ごしらえ。

The Mad Vintage is coming to Wilton's Music Hall!

告知が続いてすいません。
The Mad Vintageが、ロンドンのとってもステキなアンティークな音楽ホール、ウィルトンズ・ミュージック・ホールで開催される、
ポップアップヴィンテージフェアに参加します!

is an absolutely stunning antique music hall from the 19th century in East London.
It's still used for concerts, magic shows and so on, also used for filming as well,
such as Sherlock Holmes (2011), Dorian Gray (2009), and my favourite TV series Dancing on the Edge.
This antique music hall will be full of lovely vintages!!
There will be a gig, swing dancing, makeup & hair do stand, and of course tea & cake!
It's really worth to see this beautiful building!!

ポップアップヴィンテージフェアに参加します!

Long weekend with my friend

ここ最近は、大きなマーケットでの買い付けが続いたり、
先々週末に日本からの友人が来ていたり、相方が先週いっぱいホリデーでもあったので、
なかなか濃い時間を過ごしていました。
そんなわけで今ちょっと燃え尽きた気分な私です。

Recently I have been with buying at big markets, and my friend coming over from Japan, and also my partner had been on holiday last whole week.
So I felt a bit empty right now...

特に日本から買い付けに来たCafe du Soleilの由香さんとの時間は本当に楽しかった~。
(去年、The Mad Vintageも置いてくださった、兵庫･西宮のカフェ&ヴィンテージショップのオーナーさん）
ヨーロッパの買付旅行の際にロンドンによってくださった由香さんと、2つのマーケットへ。
普段ロンドンのマーケットは私一人なので、買付が終わった後に収穫物を見せ合ったりして楽しかった!
私、ロンドンには日本語で思い切りしゃべれる友達もヴィンテージできゃいきゃい言う友達も少ないので、
久しぶりにガールズタイムを過ごした感じです。
今回いれてもまだ3回しか会ってないというのに(笑）昔から友人だったみたいな感じ。
本当にありがとうございます!

Specially, I really enjoyed spending time with my friend from Japan.
(She is an owner of a cafe & vintage shop in Japan)
She visited me during her buying trip to Europe.
We went to 2 big markets in London.
Usually I go to markets in London alone, so I really enjoyed this time as we could show off our vintage finds afterwards.
We only met 3 times but felt like that we have been friends for a long time.

由香さん滞在の最終日は家から近いピーターシャム・ナーサリーズへ。

We went to Petersham Nurseries where is not far from my flat.

お茶の時間にはいい感じに晴れて、暖かな温室でお花とグリーンに囲まれながらティータイム。
やっぱりここのケーキ、おいしいな~。

At our teatime, the weather got better and the sun came out, it was really nice to have tea in their green house.
I love their cake, so delicious!

ピーターシャムでお茶したら、テムズ川沿いをお散歩して帰るのがお決まり。
この日はちょうど良くきれいな夕日が見えました。

After Petersham Nurseries, we always take a walk by Thames river to the town centre.
Luckily we saw the beatiful sunset.

リッチモンド初めての由香さんだったので、この川沿いはぜひ、と思ったのですが、
この日はありえないくらい水位が上がっていて、途中からテムズ川沿いの道は通れませんでした。残念。

She had never been in Richmond, so I really wanted to walk by Thames,
however, the tide was really high that day, we couldn't walk there.

由香さんの滞在で自分も楽しかったのももちろんだけど、
うれしいのはちゃんとコーヒーを淹れられるようになったこと。
(かなりめちゃくちゃな淹れ方してたようで。(笑））
せっかくゆかさんがおいしいコーヒーをくれていたのに宝の持ち腐れになりそうでしたが、
今はおうちでおいしいカフェ並みのコーヒーが飲めます!(淹れ方というか、豆がもともといいからね!）
しばらくはコーヒータイムが続きそうな我が家です。

I really enjoyed the time with my friend, moreover, she taught me how to make a coffee.
(I didn't know the proper way...  I was doing quite wrong lol)
Now we can have a good coffee at home!
(Specially Yuka gave us very nice coffee!)
I think we enjoy our home cafe for a while :)

Long weekend with my friend

ここ最近は、大きなマーケットでの買い付けが続いたり、
先々週末に日本からの友人が来ていたり、相方が先週いっぱいホリデーでもあったので、
なかなか濃い時間を過ごしていました。
そんなわけで今ちょっと燃え尽きた気分な私です。

Recently I have been with buying at big markets, and my friend coming over from Japan, and also my partner had been on holiday last whole week.
So I felt a bit empty right now...

特に日本から買い付けに来たCafe du Soleilの由香さんとの時間は本当に楽しかった~。
(去年、The Mad Vintageも置いてくださった、兵庫･西宮のカフェ&ヴィンテージショップのオーナーさん）
ヨーロッパの買付旅行の際にロンドンによってくださった由香さんと、2つのマーケットへ。
普段ロンドンのマーケットは私一人なので、買付が終わった後に収穫物を見せ合ったりして楽しかった!
